This week, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Erie Neighborhood House a $10,000 grant to support adult literacy. This local grant award is part of more than $8.3 million in grants awarded to approximately 1,000 nonprofit organizations, libraries and schools across the 44 states that Dollar General serves.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe grant we received from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation will help us increase the capacity and potential impact of our adult literacy programs,\u201d said Erie House executive director Kirstin Chernawsky. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for this support, because we know that by investing in the well-being of individuals through educational programs like these, we are able to strengthen entire communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The grant will support 3 related programs at Erie House: English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Community Literacy, all of which focus on building language and literacy skills in order to help adult learners achieve their goals in the classroom and in the workplace. Erie House aims to enroll 300 adults across the 3 programs in the coming year.<\/p>\n
