Our Work
Scholarships
Children of Conservation is proud to contribute to education in our community through two major initiatives: scholarships for children in villages surrounding wildlife sanctuaries, and providing the infrastructure to allow children to receive an education where they otherwise would not. We've provided scholarships to more than 200 chidren to attend the best schools in Kenya, Cameroon, South Africa and Uganda. These young people will go on to be leaders in their communities and will advocate for conservation for the rest of their lives.
Infrastructure
In 2017 we opened a middle school in Zambia. The school was designed to benefit the community around Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage. More than 180 children attend this government-accredited school every day. They can sit their national exams there, allowing them to move up to the next grade. This is something they previously had to travel prohibitively far to do. We also provide a school lunch with protein every day to boost their energy and help them to concentrate on their education. This school lunch program costs $53 per year, per child.
Habitat Protection
Children of Conservation collaborates with our partner sanctuaries to establish innovative programs that encourage the protection of wildlife habitats across Africa. In Kenya, we worked with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to start an initiative that ended elephant poaching in neighboring villages. We endeavor to use unique problem solving methods to tackle poaching and threats to the habitat of animals in each area we work in.
In 2018 and 2019, Children of Conservation will build a school and health center in Uganda to benefit children of the workers at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. You can help make this dream a reality by donating today.
