Cross-Country Schooling Days
Every year the Tryon Riding &Hunt Club collaborates with the Foothills Equestrian and Nature Center (FENCE) to open its cross-country course for schooling. The most valuable part for riders is the filling of the water feature, a special but infrequent event during the year, to allow competitors to train over jumps in and out of the water. Other Jumps on the course range from Starter, Beginner Novice and Novice to Intermediate and Preliminary.
Riders and trainers are invited to bring their horses—from greenies to young horses to experienced competitors—for practice over the course. Coaches also may bring students to school for the experience over solid obstacles and the water jump.
TRHC typically opens the course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A schooling fee per horse for all horses on course is required. Riders must sign a release for both TRHC and USEF and all horses MUST have negative Coggins papers. Use the link to sign up online.
Slots (20 minutes) for the highly popular water feature are scheduled and can be reserved. There is NO PARKING on the course so please park in the lot across the street from the XC entrance to FENCE.
FENCE is located at 3381 Hunting Country Road, Tryon, N.C. Phone: 828-859-9021. FENCE has stalls available for any horses needing overnight stabling. RV parking with electric and water is also available. For more information, please email TR&HC. You can also visit www.fence.org.
