OUR MISSION

For over 25 years MichBio has been driving bio-industry growth in Michigan by providing access to resources and information critical to success, advocating for policy decisions that support the long-term viability of the life sciences, and connecting the people, companies, and ideas necessary to create the next generation of bio-innovation.

OUR VISION

MichBio will be the most valued organization in Michigan for the biosciences industry by being its recognized voice as well as its foremost source of information, advocacy, and resources.

OUR GOALS

Our mission encompasses broad industry sub-sector representation including pharmaceuticals and therapeutics (human and animal health, generics and OTCs), medical devices, diagnostics, research tools, informatics (healthcare and bio-informatics), nutritional health (nutriceuticals), clinical research, industrial biotechnology, and bio-fuels and bio-agriculture.

Stephen T. Rapundalo, PhD

Dr. Rapundalo, has broad experience in the life sciences, with an extensive background in pharmaceutical research and development. Prior to joining MichBio in April 2006, he spent almost 20 years as a senior research scientist, project manager, and group leader with Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research and then Pfizer, Inc., primarily in the area of cardiovascular drug discovery.

Dr. Rapundalo also led a global interdisciplinary team that developed a strategic, operational and organizational change management program to improve Pfizer's worldwide R&D business processes. He has a strong background in innovation and is an internationally recognized expert in a number of technology areas including high-throughput screening and proteomics, among others.

Dr. Rapundalo has a superb record of scientific achievement with over 50 publications, book chapters, and monographs. He has served as a peer-reviewer for a variety of prominent scientific journals and national funding agencies. In addition, he continues to be active in a broad range of industry and governmental initiatives including intellectual property commercialization, talent recruitment and retention, science education and economic development.

Dr. Rapundalo has been a community advocate and civic leader for almost 20 years and formerly served as an elected member of the City Council in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Elizabeth studied Cultural Anthropology at the University of Oregon, in Eugene, OR and proceeded to work for various museums around the Oregon Willamette Valley. Passionate about non-profit management, she moved to Portland, OR to attend Portland State University where she received a Master of Public Administration, Nonprofit Management and Human Resources. After her Master’s program, Elizabeth moved to Colorado with her husband Christopher for a few years before moving to Monclova, OH. Elizabeth comes to MichBio after most recently working for the American Water Works Association as a Senior Coordinator & Volunteer Advisor. Elizabeth is from El Segundo, CA and no, she’s never left her wallet there.

Alisha brings experience in marketing and brand management to MichBio having spent four years overseeing the rebranding efforts at Mott Community College in Flint, MI and providing consulting services to small businesses throughout the State of Michigan for a decade. Her expertise is in strategy and message development across multiple platforms, and she has presented her work on inspiring operational change through brand engagement at several conferences.

Alisha studied Humanities and Business Management at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI, earning a Bachelor's in both areas, before continuing on to earn her Master's in Written Communication from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. Alisha is a mother of three, an avid runner and softball player, and a lover of cupcakes.

Nancy has more than 25 years of experience in leading local businesses with their accounting and operations functions. She has experience in retail, scientific, and publishing businesses with a focus on economy and efficiency. Nancy has created success for various Michigan small businesses during critical times, bringing two companies back from near bankruptcy.

A fitness enthusiast, she is an active participant in Michigan’s running and cycling communities.
